Bibesh Timalsina

Hi, I am Bibesh.

I build AI systems people can trust

I am a first-generation Computer Science student at Texas State. I work on the university library's systems team, and when I'm not there, I'm usually building something with AI. Lately that's pulled me toward healthcare and the cloud, where getting security right really matters.

I build internal tools with two senior engineers on the library's systems team. My first big project was the backend for a travel request app that more than a hundred staff now use, and it cut their wait by about a third.

Since then I've rebuilt an aging inventory tool into a proper web app behind campus sign-on, set up the pipelines that test and ship our code, and written the login system three of our projects now share. My favorite afternoon so far was chasing a data duplication error in a production flask backend server.

Personal projects and a build blog

Most of my own time goes into healthcare projects. SightX screens retinal photos for signs of diabetic eye disease. I trained the model on my laptop, tuned it to lean toward catching disease rather than missing it, and I'm now moving it to AWS one piece at a time.

I also built ScrubX, a gateway that lets a clinician ask an AI about a patient without telling it who the patient is. It swaps out names, dates and record numbers before a prompt goes out, blocks attacks hidden in the record, and puts the real details back when the answer comes in. The first version is live, and I'm now working on V2, which plugs it into SightX on AWS Bedrock.

Outside of that, I build and maintain the website for the Association of Statistics and Analytics, a student club at Texas State. And I write about every step on my blog, including the ones that failed. Those tend to be the most useful posts.

Before this I spent two years as a STEM research coach at the library, helping more than 700 students find sources worth trusting. It taught me to explain hard things simply, which I still lean on every time I open a pull request.

Diabetic retinopathy can take someone's sight before they notice a single symptom. SightX is my attempt at an early warning: upload a photo of the retina and get a screening result a clinician can act on.

I trained the model on 35,000 retinal images on an M4 MacBook. A missed diagnosis costs more than a false alarm, so every prediction runs through 108 augmented passes and a cost matrix that leans toward caution.

Writing, notes from the build

I keep a build log called Dark Matters Tech. It's where the experiments go, especially the failed ones. Visit the blog

Honor,Authenticity,Consistency

These words are my guides, and I try to live up to them in my work. To me they mean being honest about what works and what doesn't, building things the way I said I would, and showing up the next day to make them a little better.

When I'm not building, I'm usually outside somewhere old and quiet. A temple, a trail, a tree that's been standing for hundreds of years. Places like that remind me that anything worth building takes time.

Have something worth building?

I am looking for internships and early-career roles, especially in AI and healthcare. I am also always up for a team project or a hackathon. Email is the fastest way to reach me, and I'll get back to you.
